Phantasy Star Collection: Sound Collection I is a compilation album collecting the soundtracks of the first three games in the original roleplaying Phantasy Star series. Disc 2 includes bonus rearranged versions of select tracks from this collection.

Disc 1 collects the complete soundtracks for Phantasy Star, Phantasy Star II, and Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom. Note that this is the Japanese version of Phantasy Star II's tracks which include the original snare kickback that was toned down in the Western versions.

- The characters portrayed on the album's front cover are, from left to right: Rolf representing Phantasy Star II; Odin, Alis Landale, and Lutz representing Phantasy Star; Rhys representing Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom.
- The soundtrack front cover reuses the artwork on the Japanese versions of Phantasy Star, Phantasy Star II, and Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom's covers but stylizes them as if a paintbrush has colored them in over a white background.
- Hitoshi Yoneda is credited for the cover artwork.
