The Motavian Academy Basement is a dungeon in Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium. Chaz Ashley and Alys Brangwin visit this section of the Academy building in Piata for their first monster hunt.
Story[]
From their base in Aiedo, Chaz and Alys are called by the Academy to investigate reports of monster activity from within. When Alys begins to look deeper into the matter, the headmaster immediately goes to the defensive and tells them nothing of value, demanding that they solve the problem quickly. As they head toward the basement, they meet a student, Hahn Mahlay, looking into the matter as well. He is also tracking the sudden disappearance of his mentor, Professor Holt. The hunters negotiate a fee for Hahn to tag along.
As the three proceed, they encounter a secret lab filled with monster breeding capsules. Already, a mutant plant known as an Igglanova has broken from one of the capsules and begins attacking the trio, but they handily defeat it.
Now with more questions than answers, the party rushes back to the headmaster's office and grills him regarding the monsters and their connection to Holt's disappearance. The headmaster responds by stating that Holt went to an area called Birth Valley, but he himself was visited by a sinister man in black named Zio, who then threatened him not to go to Birth Valley or else risk a fate worse than death. Holt was turned to stone, prompting the headmaster to seal Birth Valley off.
