Medusa (Japanese: メデューサ) is an antagonist in the 1988 Sega Master System sci-fi RPG, Phantasy Star.
Characteristics[]
Medusa is a gorgon creature that lives on the planet Palma. She has fair skin on her upper body and a dark purple snake-like body below her waist. Her eyes are red with no visible pupils, and attached to her head are purple snakes in place of hair. She wears golden earrings with matching gold choker, armlets, and breast plate. Around her right wrist is a silver bracelet.
Medusa has a similar appearance in Phantasy Star Deluxe Edition with exception to a slight change in her wardrobe and color scheme. In this version, she does not wear jewelry and is instead clothed in a sea green bra that matches the color of her underbelly.
Biography[]

Medusa transforms the fighter Odin, one of the four protagonists of the story, into stone by the time the game begins. Later in the story, the hero party ventures to the top of her tower with the mirror shield in their possession and defeats her. The reward for this quest is the Laconian Axe - Odin's strongest weapon.
