"...Aina. Don't you remember the promise I made in front of Crawford? I said, 'I'll join in, too.' And that means I'll always have your back. We WILL defeat that Dark Falz. Together."
— Manon reassuring Aina following the defeat of the Nogleth.

Manon (Japanese: マノン) is a major character in Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis. As a Meteorn that has somehow managed to retain her memories from before she traveled to Halpha, Manon joins Aina and a fellow Meteorn on their journey to establish connections with neighboring territories and secure a means to eradicate Dark Falz.

Characteristics[]

Appearance[]

Manon has a fair complexion, large sea green eyes, and long blonde hair that obscures her ears. She wears a two tone battle outfit that is white around her chest and joints and black everywhere else, with lime green accents. She has a matching headband and a short half cape, the inside of which is bright blue.

Manon is a blunt, no-nonsense ARKS defender. Although a hard worker and skilled on the battlefield, she has issues perceiving others' emotions which causes her to fumble about thinking on how to respond properly. Despite this, Manon cares deeply for her friends and will attempt to help them in her own way if she notices that they are upset or struggling.

Most likely due to her memory being intact, she displays a high level of intelligence, and can be seen effortlessly operating Halphan computer systems with little issue at all. She is said by Aina to be "very smart", and mentions that she helps her with her studies. She displays the prowess of a seasoned analyst & researcher; She is able to sift through the admittedly unorganized data she requested from Crawford with ease, and can glean enough valuable information from unorganized or vague reports, as shown by how she learned about Nadereh's Power of Song and how it differs between Nadereh and the rest of her line by examining past combat logs. When brought to Lost Central, she displays an uncanny familiarity with Central's computer systems and how it operates, getting it back up and running in just a few minutes with Ilma. She is later tasked with hacking into Stia's "Nerve Center" to open the way forward to Dark Falz' inner sanctum and succeeds with some assistance from Ilma.

She has a tendency to show a sort of remorse and sadness when faced with the reality of death on Halpha, more so than her fellow ARKS. When visiting Retem's "gravesite", Nadereh informs the trio that the numerous memorial epitaphs contain roughly a thousand names each. This causes Manon to come to the realization that Halpha is a cruel merciless planet. She also expresses the same flavor of remorse when she views the gravestone near the Kvaris lodge. Later on, a Stian Advance Team member sacrifices his life shielding her from an attack from Nils Stia, which prompts her to break down and question why he would sacrifice his life for her. This event, however, became a catalyst to unlocking her resolve, giving her the will to end Nils Stia, and eventually take the fight to Zephetto in Leciel.

This remorse was later explained; She grew up in Leciel, not knowing anything of conflict or death, and agreed to be sent down to Halpha on an assignment due to believing it was a harmless, easy task. She described herself as "selfish" and caring about no one but herself, only caring about getting what she wants. However, her actions have proved otherwise; She is quick to defend, comfort, and help and assist her friends and people in need despite the risk to herself. She even shielded a random ARKS Defender from Nils Stia (the same one who laid down his life for her later), knowing that Nils' beam attack was capable of fatality.

Unfortunately, after the events that happened at Leciel and after coming out as a member of Resurgent ARKS, her depression worsened by a mile. She became more docile, closed off, insisting she was fine when she clearly wasn't. This was because she believed that ARKS hated her for being a Resurgent ARKS member and being involved with the Halpha Experiment, also believing everyone would be happier if she weren't there. She ended up overusing Overboost, a powerful photon technique granted to her by Zephetto that consumes a body's photons rapidly, which can inflict the user with Photon Deficiency Syndrome and prove fatal if abused. After being cured of her PDS, she displayed a rather dark suicidal attitude, telling Aina & the Guardian that they should have just let her die, and explained that she abused her power so that she could just fade away.

After a long heartfelt conversation with both Aina & the Guardian, she seemed to understand that no one hates her for being a Resurgent and that ARKS recognized her as one of them. She is currently still in recovery for her depression and suicidal thoughts, and entrusted the Guardian to correct her if she makes mistakes.

Pre-NGS[]

Manon arrived on the shores of Aelio Town in her pod, like many Meteorn before her. She was taken in by Garoa and became good friends with Aina and the other townspeople. She trained with Garoa and eventually became a fully certified ARKS Defender.

Prologue: Arrival[]

Manon is seen harvesting Restasigne with Aina on Kanai Isle, when suddenly a Meteorn pod appears and crashes on the beach on the island they are occupying. Aina rushes to save the Meteorn from their pod. Once safe, Aina brings the Meteorn to the center of the island they're on when suddenly they're ambushed by a Pettas Sword. Manon rushes in to defend them against the DOLLS threat before requesting both to help fight them off. Garoa appears and rushes the remaining enemies, vanquishing all of them with ease and precision. Garoa greets the new Meteorn before ordering the trio to finish collecting Restasigne.

He then takes the trio up to the top of the tallest peak on Kanai Isle they stand on. He and Manon teach them how Photon Glide works, and the four head down to the town on the beach from the cliff. Upon landing, Garoa assures the new Meteorn that everyone will give them a nice warm welcome before heading to his house. Garoa then educates the Meteorn on their planet Halpha, the state of the planet, their war with the DOLLS, and about what a Meteorn is. He reveals that Manon is a Meteorn, but a special case of one, as she has retained at least most of her memory whereas other Meteorn had no memory of where they came from. Aina reveals that Manon is quite smart, as she helps her with her studies. Garoa also reveals that Meteorn Mags are more advanced than their own, and that Manon possesses one as well. He then asks the Meteorn if they're hungry, and heads out to prepare, telling the Meteorn to get familiar with the townspeople.

Prologue: The Fall of Aelio Town[]

Once they return, Garoa informs the trio that they have prepared a party, and tells the Meteorn they have a long standing Halphan custom to give the warmest welcome to their Meteorn friends. Manon & Aina join the party as well, and they celebrate the arrival of the new Meteorn with the rest of the townsfolk on the beach. As the Meteorn speaks with Garoa, Manon can be seen chatting with Aina and a few other townsfolk around a fire. Garoa informs the Meteorn that he and Manon are fully certified ARKS Defenders, the people who hunt & defend against the DOLLS threat. He also states that Aina is still just an Apprentice. He urges them to give joining ARKS their consideration.

Suddenly the celebrations are cut short, as a massive shockwave envelops the beach. Manon throws herself at Aina to shield her from the shockwave. Suddenly, DOLLS appear along the coast in swarms. A massive unknown enemy appears behind the DOLLS army, appearing to be their commander. Garoa remarks that the ones they faced on Kanai Isle were likely just scouts, before picking up his blade and expertly commanding is people to attack. Manon joins in the fight and they succeed in wiping out most of the forces on the beach.

The massive enemy then charges a powerful beam that destroys most of the structures of the town, prompting Garoa to instruct Aina to take the Meteorn & Manon to the caves and get help. Aina protests, not wishing to leave her father to fight the enemy alone. Manon stops her and tells her that Garoa means they'll just get in the way. Aina protests once more, and Manon becomes assertive and commands them to come with her up the cliffs. Garoa continues to fight the DOLLS as they escape.

Reaching the cliffs before the cave overlooking the now fiery ruins of the once peaceful town, they witness Garoa launching himself at the massive enemy and delivering a powerful yet futile slash on its face. He launches himself at it once more to deliver another blow, only to hesitate when it opens up its core. It unleashes a powerful beam attack that reduces what remained of the town to a crater. taking Garoa with it. Manon conjures a photonic barrier to protect Aina and the Meteorn from the blast, but could not sustain it for long enough, as Aina required immediate medical attention and the Meteorn was rendered unconscious.

Prologue: Aftermath[]

At daybreak, the Meteorn wakes up and notices Manon standing over them. They converse about the events that had just transpired hours ago, and she informs them that ARKS Defenders from Central City came by to assess the situation, and took Aina to Central City to receive medical attention. There was no sign of survivors, and no trace of Garoa. They both agree to head to Central and meet up with Aina.

Upon reaching Central, Manon's Mag rings, and she receives a call from Ran, a Central City Operator. She informs the duo to make their way to central tower and meet with Central's commander, Crawford. Numerous ARKS Defenders meet them at the gate and express their sympathies as they make their way to the tower. Once they arrive, Crawford greets them and expresses his sympathies as well. After confirming to the duo that Aina isn't in any critical condition, he informs them of the threat they just witnessed: Dark Falz.

According to Crawford, Dark Falz is the main Command DOLLS unit, the one calling all the shots, and that it hadn't appeared since 100 years ago. He continues to tell them that Dark Falz is responsible for a catastrophe that occurred 100 years ago.

Central![]

Aina and manon central ep7

Manon makes several appearances in the online webcomic, Central! As the quiet companion to Aina, the two girls manage to find time to juggle rest and relaxation alongside their official ARKS duties under the direct orders of Crawford.

Manon's debut appearance is in Episode 7: Man of Destiny as a background character. When one of the Central operators bemoans being too busy to find a soulmate, fellow operator Ran assures her that her special someone may just happen to fall out of the sky just as what happened to Manon and Aina one fateful day on the beachside.

Manon and aina central ep16

In Episode 16: Holy Night for Everyone, Manon and Aina bump into the Central girls by chance and all agree to meet up and celebrate the festivities together, planning to enjoy cake and open presents. Unbeknownst to all of them, Dozer hovers in the background listening in on their holiday plans.

Manon and aina central ep31

Later in Episode 31: Behind the Defense, Manon and Aina are relaxing when they are summoned to participate in a defense mission in the Aelio region. Upon arriving at the dig site, the two wonder amongst themselves the purpose of such a device. A fellow ARKS member from Central City named Raskina joins their group think session, suggesting that perhaps the mining rig is digging for grinders by smashing rappies caught by the machine underground. Aina and Manon counter that it would be more efficient to dig for minerals, instead. Raskina agrees that her suggestion would probably lead to the overhunting and eventual extinction of rappies but grimly adds that the machine, regardless of its use, is disturbing the creatures' natural habitat.
