Item Enhancement is possible at an Item Lab shop in one of the main towns. This can let you upgrade your weapons and armor in multiple ways.

NOTE, when you first start a character most of these options will be unavailable. You will need to complete certain quests, both Main and Side, to unlock the functions in the Item Lab.

Item Enhancement[]

Item Enhancement allows you to "level up" weapons and armor. Each level increases the base Attack of a weapon and the base Defense of an armor. The principles of Item Enhancement are the following:

  • You enhance a piece of equipment by selecting it, then selecting additional equipment pieces in your inventory to consume as fuel for the enhancement. Weapons must be used as fuel to enhance Weapons, and Armors must be used as fuel to enhance Armors. Each level of Enhancement takes a certain amount of enhancement XP to obtain, which depends on the quality and quantity of Fuel items selected.
  • You will occasionally pick up Silver and Gold equipments either as drops or quest rewards. These are relatively poor weapons in actual combat, but when used as enhancement Fuel they give far more enhancement XP than average.
  • Initially equipments can only be enhanced to level 20. You will need to Limit Break them (explained below) to increase the max Enhancement level by 10. This can be done up to level 70.
  • Once you enhance a piece of equipment to levels 30, 40 and 50 each of these will grant an additional Augment Slot (explained below).

Limit Break[]

As mentioned above, to increase the maximum enhancement level possible on a piece of equipment you will need to Limit Break it for each 10 levels past level 20. The resources needed for this are initially Ores, but gradually get rarer.

Add Augments[]

Augments are the small capsule-like items you frequently pick up as you adventure. They can be used to add their augment effect to any piece of equipment with an available Augment Slot, or you can replace an existing one. The principles of Augments are the following:

  • Augments that have a roman numeral next to their name (such as C/Might I, II and III) are the same Augment in different Grades (for example, the aforementioned Might augment will increase Melee Weapon Proficiency by +1%, +1.5% or +2%)
  • You cannot have the same Augment multiple times on the same piece of equipment no matter the grade; attempting to do so will replace whatever current Grade of that augment is present.
  • Augmentation can fail; when selecting the Augment to use each individual capsule only adds a small percentage chance of success. Selecting a higher quantity of the capsule will increase the chance of success; a maximum of 10 capsules can be chosen and for some higher grade versions this still may not guarantee a 100% success chance.
  • While any particular Augment's effect may seem small, with highly Enhanced equipment giving more slots you can have up to 20 active Augments so the effects can definitely add up.

Unlock Potential[]

Unlock Potential is a function only available for Weapons. Each Weapon has one possible Potential passive which both increases the base damage Potential percentage of the weapon and grants one additional passive ability dependent on the Weapon. The additional passive can be a boost to Photon Gauge growth, improved Critical Damage and Resistance, or many other options.

Unlocking the Potential of a weapon happens one level at a time. The potential can be enhanced further up to level 6.

Add Preset Skills[]

Each Weapon or Armor can have one Preset Skill added to it. Equipments found as Quest rewards or loot can randomly have a Preset Skill on it. You can transfer this Preset Skill to your preferred Weapon or Armor by consuming the item with the skill as Fuel. A few key limitations:

  • Preset Skills already on a piece of equipment cannot be upgraded. You can only transfer a better version onto the weapon, overwriting what is there (this can also be done to switch the Skill).
  • The equipment you want to add the skill to must be the completely identical type to the one being consumed; for example if you want to add a preset skill to a Tzvia Armor, you must transfer it from another Tzvia Armor.
  • Preset Skills can exist up to level 5.

The available Preset Skills for weapons are the following:

  • Fixa Fatale: Increases the Critical Activation Rate (critical hit chance) by a moderate percentage.
  • Fixa Termina: Increases the Critical Potency (damage) by a moderate percentage.
  • Fixa Attack: Increases the base Potency of the weapon by a small amount (barely more than a single Augment, so perhaps skip this one).

The available Preset Skills for armors are the following (and as a reminder, you can wear 3 armors at once):

  • Fixa Performa: Decreases your PP Consumption on Photon Arts by a small percentage
  • Fixa Guard: Increases your Damage Resistance by a small percentage
  • Fixa Enthusia: Increases your PP recovery rate from attacking enemies by a small percentage.
  • Fixa Natura: Increases your natural PP recovery rate by a small percentage.

Multi-weapon[]

The Multi-weapon function allows you to merge two different weapon types together. While this doesn't by itself increase the raw damage rating of the weapon, it DOES allow you to equip Photon Arts of both weapons simultaneously within your attacks bar. Other aspects:

  • Class Skills that are locked for use to a specific weapon type are still accessible if that type is part of your Multi-Weapon.
  • You CAN make and equip a Multi-Weapon with one of the weapon types being for a class you have not set as your Main or Sub, however you will only have access to the Normal Attack and Weapon Action of that unset class which is not enough of a benefit to bother.

This opens up a wide variety of customization options for your skill build.

Exchange Enhancement Materials[]

The Exchange function within the Item Lab allows you two types of exchanges: Augments and Raw Materials.

  • Augment exchanges allow you to trade lesser Augments for greater ones, such as trading 10 grade 1 or 4 grade 2 augments for one grade 3 augment, or for more advanced Augments that have multiple simultaneous effects you can trade several different single-effect Augments and a Raw Material. Note that you can do several iterations of a trade at once; for example, if you're trading grade 1 augments for a C/Might III at a 10 to 1 ratio, you could select 20 grade 1 augments to get 2 x the C/Might III instead of having to do a selection of 10 each time.
  • The Raw Material exchange allows you to trade for more advanced Raw Materials needed for higher level functions (such as very high level Limit Breaks) for lesser resources
