Roleplay is the third episode of the Phantasy Star Online 2 The Animation series. It aired on January 21, 2016 on Japanese television networks, and was simulcast on January 22, 2016 for the North American audience with subtitles on Crunchyroll.

- SORO says that his pairing with Itsuki is becoming routine, suggesting the latter should "connect with others through association."
- Yutaka Sasaki, a member of student council that is frequently overshadowed by his peers, begins falling behind with his duties. Itsuki offers to help after performing other errands.
- Itsuki gives Yutaka the nickname Yu-chan, much to Yutaka's chagrin.
- Itsuki plays PSO2 with his friend Kota for the first time. Kota's in-game name is Koa.
- The two meet Koa's regular group of roleplayers: the tiny male cast, Master Nezumi; the girly cat, OrgaCats; the feudal warrior, Last Samurai; the deuman, Yumiko; the knuckle-wielding cast, Kid; and the quiet female cast, Silva.
- The group mentions that they have been plagued by a "troll," a player to bothers others for their own amusement, and warns Koa and Itsuki to be careful.
- Itsuki plays in a multiparty for the first time.
- Itsuki is tasked with performing many odd jobs that he begins to become frustrated. Yu-chan offers to help this time.
- Itsuki learns that OrgaCats and Master Nezumi are construction workers in real life.
- Itsuki, Koa, and SORO begin looking for more members to play with, and in doing so recruit a mysterious newman named Musashi. Later in the caves, they learn that he is the troll.
- Itsuki sees that Musashi is ridiculed for his troll status in-game, and is surprised when the troll gives him a friend request. He gives Musashi the benefit of the doubt and learns he is Yu-chan. With his identity revealed to the entire lobby, Musashi becomes bewildered and logs off.
- Yu-chan stops reporting to student council, and Itsuki attempts to patch their relationship in real life and in the game. He succeeds, and Yu-chan now has a place in the circle of roleplayers, as well as returns to student council.
- Rina sees Itsuki on the roof at school later, revealing her identity as SORO. He responds by saying he already knew.
