Escapipes (Japanese: まよいのオカリナ, "ocarina of the lost, sometimes written as イグザオカリナ (exact ocarina)") are consumable items common to Phantasy Star games.
Phantasy Star II[]
The escapipe in Phantasy Star II is a common consumable item. Once used, its pleasant tune allows the party to escape from a dungeon.
Most retailers on the planet Mota carry plenty of the ocarinas in stock, while in stark contrast, Ryuon is the only town on Dezo to supply them. They cost a reasonable sum of 70 meseta each. The technique hinas has the same effect as a pipe, and is learned by Rolf and Shir.
There is an achievement available in the Xbox Live Arcade port of Phantasy Star II worth 10 gamerpoints for using an escapipe. The picture depicting the ocarina, however, is incorrect. It displays artwork of a hidapipe instead.
Phantasy Star III[]
Escapipes in Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom are known as "exact ocarinas" in the Japanese version. They transport the party to the dungeon's entrance when consumed.
This game's depiction of the pipe is the most faithful to the instrument's form in the real world. The escapipe is brown in color with four holes lined at the edge of the instrument. Its general shape is similar to sweet potato ocarinas.
Phantasy Star IV[]
In Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium, an escapipe can only be used outside battle and inside dungeons. It teleports the party outside of the entrance to the current dungeon. The hinas technique has the same effect as using an escapipe, and can be learned by Chaz and Rune.
Escapipes are sold in most tool stores for 70 meseta. The general shape of the pipe hearkens back to its Phantasy Star II design, with an elongated design and blue color.
