Find a hunter who is working down on Ragol.
Pso battletrainingmain

Battle Training is a story quest in Phantasy Star Online. It is among the Tier 1 offline quests that are available from the start of the game and serves as both a tutorial to the game's mechanics and an introduction to Ragol and its characters.

Zidd recruited his cousin, Ash Canaan, to retrieve a data disk for him from Ragol. Unfortunately, it has been some time since Ash took the quest and there are no signs of him returning. Worrying for his cousin's safety, Zidd seeks out a powerful bounty hunter known as Kireek and then submits a request with the Hunter's Guild for a hunter to accompany the android to the surface in order to rescue Ash.

Quest Details[]

Official quest description: "Please find a hunter and bring him back. He went down to Ragol for a quest."
Difficulty: Very easy
Length: Short
Client: Zidd
Solo mode only?: Yes
Requirements: None
NPC partners: Kireek

Areas visited: Forest 1

Walkthrough[]

Zidd will ask you to find a hunter, Ash. Zidd sent Ash down to Ragol to perform some research, but he has yet to return. Zidd will request that you rescue Ash in the company of a HUcast, Kireek. Speak to Kireek near the door to the Hunters' Guild, then speak to Zidd again. Zidd will assign one of you to retrieve a data disk that Ash ought to have with him; the other will help Ash if he is injured.

Head down to Forest 1. The main objective of this quest is to fight your way through Forest 1 until you reach the northeastern section of rooms. In the last room is Ash and the data disk. You will have to travel in a clockwise direction around Forest 1 to reach the last room. This is a very easy task even if you are a low level, because Kireek is always extremely strong and can handle the monsters without much trouble. If you wish you can simply hang back and allow Kireek to kill the monsters for you, or you can help him out.

Along the way, Kireek will give you gameplay tips.

Once you reach the final room, you will see Ash, a HUmar with a saber, lying on the ground. He will warn you about the presence of some sort of threat. Head deeper into the room and retrieve the data disk on the ground (it takes the form of a large white sparkle) and four Savage Wolves will attack. Defeat them and speak to Ash again, who will tell you that he was attacked as he completed his mission and dropped the disk.

Speak to Kireek again, and he will tell you to return the disk to Zidd. Take the telepipe that appears back to Pioneer 2 and speak to Zidd to complete the quest.

Script[]

Zidd: Are you [PLAYER]? I'm Zidd. I asked a young hunter, Ash, to do some research on Ragol. He's supposed to be done with the job by now, but he hasn't returned yet. Perhaps he got himself into some trouble... So I want to ask you to go to Ragol and rescue him. Not by yourself. Please go with that hunter over there. First of all, can you bring him here? I'll talk to you later.

Kireek: Are you [PLAYER]? It's the first time I've had a partner. Zidd asked me to do this job first. Unexpectedly, he told me I'd have to work with someone else... I had to say YES as he is my client...

(Kireek joins the party. If the team attempts to travel to Ragol before speaking to Zidd...)

Kireek: Speak to Zidd first.

(With Kireek in the party, the duo walk over and have a chat with Zidd.)

Zidd: Hello again, [PLAYER]. He's Kireek, your partner for this quest. He is a HUcast. He's a pro. Perhaps you can learn a lot from him. Kireek, I know you are unhappy, but I need two hunters for this. One has to retrieve the data disk that I asked Ash to get. The other is to help Ash return here if he is injured. This is my personal agenda. It has nothing to do with business. Ash is my cousin. I don't want to lose him. Please understand.

Kireek: ..... I have no choice.

Zidd: What are you doing here? Please hurry up and find Ash. Good luck.

(Use the portal to travel to Ragol, Forest 1. Upon approaching the gate to the first room, Kireek stops the protagonist and offers some advice.)

Kireek: Here come the wild animals of Ragol. If you're close enough, a cursor shows you which enemy you can attack. Don't let them surround you!

(Once the room is cleared of hostiles, Kireek continues.)

Kireek: Be careful. Even if you defeat one group, another one may be hiding near you. Watch the radar. Prepare for the battle so you don't get surrounded.

(Approach the door to the next room. Next to it is a switch.)

Kireek: That's the door switch. Press it. Did the door open?

(The door is now open. After entering the next room and clearing it of monsters, Kireek shares some more advice.)

Kireek: In some areas, you must defeat all the enemies to unlock the door. Perhaps it's a security reason... Other doors can be opened through switches.

(After some travel time, the team comes across some utility crates.)

Kireek: Arms and protectors have attributes. Learn to link attributes to enemy types. Monsters around here are all native animals. Practice on them. Techniques also have attributes. Learn the attributes if you want to survive.

(Kireek stops the protagonist before the door to the next area.)

Kireek: If you're with your teammates, they'll watch your back. If you're alone, try to change the view often to look around.

(Once the room is cleared, Kireek has a question.)

Kireek: What's wrong? Is it difficult to hit the enemies?

[Yes, very...] ←

Kireek: All right. I'll teach you some of the basics. Stop and listen to me. First of all, there are three different types of attacks. "Attack" is a fast striking move, but it's not very powerful. A charged "Heavy Attack" is more powerful, but it can be easily dodged. "Extra Attack" generates a special power from your weapon. Understand? You can do up to 3 combo attacks if you attack rapidly. This is a simple tip to help you increase your hit rate. How do you choose which attack to use? Judge it by the enemies you face. Make sure you survive. Try some attacks when you see some monsters.

[No problem.] ←

Kireek: All right. It's OK as long as you aren't a liability.

(If you answered "Yes, very...", Kireek will address the protagonist after the next room is cleared.)

Kireek: [PLAYER], did you learn the trick? Two easy "Attacks", then a critical "Heavy Attack" as a finishing blow. This is one example.

One can also use Techniques. Techniques use up TP but they always hit enemies. Unfortunately, androids can't use Techniques. I envy those who can.

(The team destroys the hostiles in the next room.)

Kireek: Here's a simple battle tip... Be mindful of the colors during the battle. The cursor above the enemy is a hint on how to attack an enemy.

(As they approach the door to the next area.)

Kireek: [PLAYER], look at your controller. The cursor colors correspond to the button colors. If an enemy is marked with a red cursor, press the red button! Got it?

(More hostiles are defeated. As they enter the next room, the team finds Ash lying on the ground.)

Ash: Wh...who is it!?

(As they approach him...)

Ash: I don't know who you guys are, but be careful... They're...still hiding around here.

......

Kireek: I can hear something... A growl...?

(The data disk is on the ground. The team goes over to pick it up...)

Got the data disk!

(...when they are suddenly ambushed by wolves. After defeating the monsters, the party returns to Ash and helps him out. He gets to his feet and thanks them.)

Ash: (breath) Thank you... Wha...? Zidd? Now I know why you guys are here... He always treats me like a kid... I completed the quest, but suddenly, they attacked me here. Monsters appeared and I dropped the disk. I couldn't do anything.

How vexing...! I appreciate that you guys came to save me, but I...

Kireek: I'll take this boy with me. You deliver the disk to the client. Then we can finish this job. [PLAYER]..., train yourself. Become much stronger to impress me... Ha, ha, ha...

(Return back to Pioneer 2 with the telepipe portal Kireek left behind.)

Ash: Thank you. I'll keep practicing!

Zidd: Kireek already left after receiving the Meseta. Phew... I have never seen such an intimidating android. It was like that android was built for battle. This must be the disk that I asked Ash to find. Thanks. Ash is enduring the pain, since he won't go see a doctor. You can get your reward at the Hunter's Guild. Thank you.
